Hello :) Jaqui & Mai here---this blog is specifically for our Australian Shepherd---Koda Bear. We got him on Dec. 4, 2011 while he was 10 weeks old, and have had him for ~2 weeks now and he's been so good to us! We plan to keep this updated (almost) everyday with pictures and stories of our adventures with our boy.

24 weeks

Koda is in his 6 months now, and boy did he grow big.  He’s not at his full size yet, but sometimes I take a step back and really look at him, and gosh I feel “where’s that little cute guy?”.  Then he looks at me with that look he does, like “come on jaqs” and then I know that’s him, he’s still the ding dong king kong.  So yes…this is my first REAL dog that I’ve had for longer than uhmm…10 days lol (I had a leopard catahoula during summer one year named Rainy Day).  I definitely can say that Koda is my homedog, he’s so good to me, well not always, but he’s always there to keep me up and at it.  I like that I don’t do some of the things I used to do, and that I have new habits.  I’d have to say my mind thinks completely differently now that he’s around, it’s a huge responsibility.  Very tough financially at first, but now that he’s getting a little older and knows the commands he needs, he doesn’t need to be rewarded AS often, though he’s still a spoiled prince.

I have a bag of his teeth, about 9 or 10 of them, I thought that was so cute, but he got Lola (his stuffed animal dachshund) all bloody with his teeth, but we got her cleaned up.  That bloody mouth didn’t last for TOO long, and now his adult teeth are coming in, so big they are getting, but boy does his breath stink! It is kicking to the max!

He’s been staying at home whenever we leave for the past almost 2 weeks now.  I think he’s getting way good at the not barking thing when we leave, and I try not to entertain his excitement too much when we come home bc that’s why he’s so jumpy jumpy, can’t be having that.  BUT he does bark at the door when my friends come over, I don’t think he likes the knocking or doorbell.

He’s not super aggressive, but I’ve seen him want to protect me.  I’ve heard him growl and howl, and sometimes i can’t even believe it’s really him.  He’s got a deep little bark/voice, and yet still whines like a baby.

Yesterday he got a good bath from Petco.  We usually bathe him every 2 weeks or so, and he doesn’t like it, but he does it, I think we just don’t like the scratches we get from when he’s fighting us in the beginning.  He’ll get a good bath every once in a while.  He was so handsome though when we picked him up, he got a blow dry and Mai said, “there’s his australian shepherd” it was curly and we could really see the length of his hair.  The whites of his coat were bright and he just looked so clean.  I hope he wasn’t too excited when we left him, he does fine with me at home when I want to cut his nails or trim his hair.  He will need a teeth cleaning soon though, boy’s teeth is looking nasty.  The breath, not SO bad, i can handle, but the looks of the teeth, I can see it sometimes when he yawns, I’m just like “GAH”! Hah.

I’m excited though, he’ll be coming to Mount Hood with us in a couple weeks, dogs love the snow! And I love Koda!
